Bulger (James “Whitey”) is born in Everett.

The son of a laborer and housewife, Whitey Bulger grows up at 41 Logan Way, attends St. Mark’s School and South Boston High School, then begins his life of crime. After being arrested several times, Bulger serves in the U.S. Air Force, returns to South Boston, serves time in prison, ten becomes involved with the Killeen Gang in South Boston and the Winter Hill Gang in Somerville. He becomes an informant for the FBI in 1975,* is indicted for racketeering and murder, and becomes a fugitive in 1994.* Captured in 2011,* Bulger is convicted of multiple offenses in 2013.* He is killed in prison in West Virginia on October 30, 2018, and buried in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Roxbury.
